Vision, Leadership and Strategic Planning

Who is it for? Effective leadership guided by vision is essential to the success of any organisation, group or activity, but it is a skill not easily mastered or achieved, including those in leadership positions. Through this course participants are introduced to requirements of great leadership and how they can become great leaders.
Course Description: This one-week training aims to prepare professionals for quality of management by vision, leadership, strategic thinking and planning. It looks in depth at vision; why it is an essential element of leadership; how to develop vision and use it to introduce change to lives and organisations. Participants are led through an exploration of leadership and developing leadership skills suitable for the situation and context in which the participant is working. It will broaden management knowledge and skills in a cross-cultural environment. It will develop an understanding of your personal leadership and management style. In addition to knowing where s/he is heading, a good leader has a realistic view of the organisation or group. Therefore the course also develops a working knowledge of SWOT, followed by strategic thinking and planning, and change management.

At the end of the course participants will leave with leaderships skills, action plan, including suggestions for individual coaching. Although challenging, the courses promises to inspire and give participants the practical tools they need for leadership success.
Course Objectives: At the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand how to develop vision and supporting goals;
- Understand effective leadership traits, and identify those traits in him/herself that require strengthening to be used more effectively;
- Have worked as a team to plan a change to an organization or private life;
- Be introduced to a spirit of critical inquiry and openness;
- Prepared a strategic plan.
Assessment: The training has two assessments:
- Vision development. Write a 1-page description of the vision and mission for your organisation of choice. It should adhere to the requirements of vision and mission development as discussed.
Weight: 30%
- Essay. Prepare a 5-page essay that explains the strategic plan for your organisation and the leadership skills you will need to develop to ensure the plan’s implementation.
Weight: 70%
Facilitator’s profile: Fr. Jan Czuba, President of Divine Word University, came to Papua New Guinea in 1985. Working primarily in the Ambunti District, East Sepik Province, he assisted the local residents to improve the available educational facilities. He came to Madang in 1995 and took over an Institute, later established as Divine Word University. He is the Chairperson of the PNG Vice Chancellors Committee, a member of the Commission of
Higher Education, an Executive Secretary of the Association for the SVD Universities in the Asia Pacific region and Chairperson of the Management Board of the Modilon General Hospital in Madang. In 2001 granted by UNESCO a Chair in Freedom of Expression. UNESCO Office Responsible for the Chair/ Network communication and Information in Papau New Guinea. In 2000 and 2005, he received awards from the Papua New Guinea Government for his contribution to the development of Higher Education in PNG. Course fees include course materials, morning and afternoon tea, and lunch. All course fees are inclusive of GST.
