Introduction to QuickBooks Accounting Package

Who is it for? This course is designed for anyone interested to gain an understanding of accounting software and how it can be used in any environment, whether in the office, at home, school, health organisations, etc. Participants in the course must have a working knowledge of computers and basic understanding of accounting.
Course Description: The subject aims to enable participants to acquire skills to use QuickBooks accounting software and apply it within their environment. The course will assist participants to establish their own QuickBooks operations, analyse data, process data and produce various financial reports and analyse those reports. The course is conducted in a computer laboratory and includes accounting theory. Teaching methods include lectures, group work and hands on exercise. Course participants will be issued with certificates of participation.
Prerequisites: Cs001 – Introduction to Computing or equivalent abilities
Bookkeeping or accounting understanding
Outcomes: At the end of this trainings, participants:
- Able to effectively use QuickBooks Accounting package
- Able to identify the relationship of accounting processes to QuickBooks software.
- Have created their own company file, chart of accounts, posted bills, raised invoices, raised cheques, collected cash and processed receipts
- Produced financial reports from Quick Books (profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Analysed reports and relate them to their working environment.
Assessment: There are two assessments required for this training:
- Assessment Task 1: Creation of a company file, chart of accounts, posted bills, raised invoices, raised cheques, collected cash and processed receipts.
Weight: 60%
- Assessment Task 2: Production of financial reports from company file: profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow.
Weight: 40%
Facilitator’s profile: Upon graduating from Divine Word University Mr. Paias Bokorum immediately began working as an Accountant and has continued in this profession since. Since starting his professional duties he has been using QuickBooks accounting software. This practical experience has enabled him to refine his skills and understanding of the software and given him insider’s knowledge, which he shares with students. His accounting experience has been within a variety of contexts and he has taught QuickBooks at DWU for several years.
Course fees include course materials, morning and afternoon tea, and lunch. All course fees are inclusive of GST.
