Facilitator: Nick Mleczko


Duration: 5 days (5 hours per day)

Who is it for? If you have mastered basic computing but feel that you are lacking knowledge that will make you more efficient and effective in using the advanced software programs and features, this course is for you.

Course Description: The course will expand your understanding and abilities in electronic based book keeping; using Microsoft Project in planning, tracking and controlling projects; and presenting electronically based business reports.

Students are provided with a handbook containing all exercises used in the course. This is essential for reference when later applying the skills learned.
Participants work in small groups and individually on the computers.
Practical exercises in all topics are carried out by participants.

Outcomes: The outcomes of the training include:
Students learn techniques used for electronic based bookkeeping. The outcomes are;

  • Explain types of balance sheets, assets, liabilities
  • Design an accounting process
  • Using MYOB, utilize ledgers, transaction records, trial balances
  • Define what a business’s liquidity is and the two calculations used to measure it
  • Using MYOB, Prepare a credit fees journal
  • Using MYOB, Prepare a credit purchase journal
  • Using MYOB, Post a fees journal to the general ledger
  • Using MYOB, Post a purchases journal to the general ledger
  • Describe what VAT is

In this unit students explore fundamentals of using Microsoft Project to plan, track and control projects. The units outcomes are;

  • Project management principles
  • Project definition
  • Project roles and responsibilities
  • Planning resources for projects
  • Estimating
  • Planning and scheduling
  • Tracking
  • Controlling
  • Status reporting
  • Stage and project completion

In this unit students explore fundamentals presenting electronically based business reports. The unit’s outcomes are;

  • Understand the basics of HTML and create your first HTML Page
  • Explore the use of HTML tables to layout a web page
  • Recognise the many different types of HTML links used to navigate a web page and web site. Understand the importance of navigation in relation to people browsing your site
  • Learn how to add images to a web page and understand the importance of page weights and download speeds
  • Understand the web safe palette and the use of style sheets to control the look of a web page
  • To be capable of designing and planning a basic web site that satisfies a client requirement
  • Understand the importance of interpreting web site specifications in the planning and constructing of a web site
  • Make your web site visible to the outside world

Facilitator’s profile: Nick Mleczko brings to his work extensive experience in Information Technology. Prior to coming to Divine Word University (DWU) Mr. Mleczko worked as an Information Technology Lecturer and IT Section Head at Lae Technical College. At Lae Technical he taught Computer Information Systems, Courses in Diploma and Technical Trade Certificate Network Installations and PC Maintenance. He currently lecturers in the DWU Faculty of Flexible Learning. Prior to coming to PNG he worked as a course designer and trainer for Moorabin TAFE in Website Development for Small Business in Melbourne, Australia. He also worked with National Australia Bank, Melbourne as its Senior Analyst Programmer. He has conducted trainings in Internet, Web Page Construction, Word/Excel/Access programs.

Course fees include course materials, morning and afternoon tea, and lunch.
